Music Videos

There are many different music videos that are used by music artists.

• Narrative:

This type contains a story line which progresses as the music does.  It usually refers back to the song, however the artist doesn't need to be included.  This includes 'Robbers' by The 1975.

• Cinematic:

This is usually compared to a mini film as it as high production values.  There is good use of cinematography and mise en scene.  An example of this is 'Don't stop' by 5 Seconds of Summer.

• Studio-based:

This is a music video that is set in one location and could be shot in a studio. For example, 'Sex' by The 1975.

• Intertextuality:

This type of music video refers to other texts, however it is not like a parody as it does not make fun of the texts being used.  'I feel like dancin'' by All time low is a good example for this.

• Parody:

This is a video that makes fun of another text. Blink-182's 'All the small things' is an example of this.

• Pastiche:

This works seriously with another genre/time frame.  It includes old fashion mise en scene.  'Mr Brightside' by The Killers uses Pastiche.

• Animation:

This is when animation is used to make the video. There are many examples such as 'Do I wanna know?' by The Arctic Monkeys.

• As Live:

This is a music video which uses live footage from a concert. For example 'Planetary (GO!)' by My Chemical Romance.

The Brief

My task is to produce:

¡  A music ‘promo’ video

¡  Up to 5 minutes

¡  Either working on your own or in a group of up to four members

I will also need to produce:

¡  A ‘digipak’ (Six panels) for its release on CD

¡  A magazine advertisement for the digipak

 In addition to my ‘promo’ video I will have to produce:

¡  A critical evaluation

Hello, my name is Georgia and this is my music blog.  This blog will be filled with research into music videos and it will be where I post my coursework.

A little bit about me:

• My name is Georgia Fortt
• I am 18 years old.
• I am currently studing media, film studies, ICT, and business.
• My interests include music, going to concerts, hanging out with friends and reading my favourite books.
• I am very excited about this part of the course as I can explore music videos from my favourite artists such as The 1975 and 5 Seconds of Summer.
